Winter Wheels vintage motorcycle exhibit opens in Davenport, Iowa


If you’re in the Davenport, Iowa area, be sure to check out Winter Wheels: Antique Motorcycle Exhibition at the Putnam Museum. It runs until April 3, 2022. The Putnam Museum and Science Center is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution of Quad Cities and has been open for over 150 years.

Winter Wheels Vintage Motorcycle Exhibition: Indian

Motorcycles included in the exhibit are locally sourced, with models ranging from the early 20th century to the 1970s. Brands represented include Harley-Davidson, Indian, Excelsior, Henderson, Triumph, Sears / Allstate, Rickman, Honda, BMW, Kawasaki, Husqvarna, Ural and others. You’ll see minis (Honda XR75 and Mini Trail), Harley-Davidson and Ural sidecars, a Sears / Allstate scooter and a 1976 Husqvarna WR, as well as many traditional street bikes. There is also a wide range of artwork on the walls.

“From the start, Winter Wheels was meant to be a celebration of motorcycling by showcasing bikes of all shapes and sizes, and our community did not disappoint,” said Benjamin Johnson, vice president of Putnam Museum Experiences. “We are extremely happy to host this exhibition organized in collaboration on the history of two wheels. The owners of Quad Cities and beyond have generously supported this exhibit, and we look forward to sharing this fun assortment of machines with our visitors.

Winter Wheels vintage motorcycle exhibition: Honda XR75

The Putnam Museum Store will carry limited edition Winter Wheels products. Admission is $ 9 for adults. Young people, seniors, students and the military enter for $ 8. Households with an EBT card get admission for $ 1 per person. Members of the museum enter for free. The Putnam Museum is located at 1717 W. 12th Street in Davenport and has a permanent exhibit on the discovery of ancient Egypt.
