The Ski & Snowboard Club Vail cycling team – also known as Vail Junior Cycling – achieved multiple podiums and placed in the top 10 in the first three races of the 2021 series of VRD Bloch & Chapleau Town Mountain Bike Race . The Summer City Race Series offers the opportunity to practice highly competitive cycling for all ages.

The Minturn Mini was the season launch race on May 19 for children ages 5 and up. The Eagle Ranch Classic race was held on May 26, followed by the Davos Dash on June 19, offering tough competition in various categories of youth and adults.

SSCV’s Vail junior cycling program has nearly 70 participants this season, with enrollments up about 20 from last year with the most recent addition of mini-rollers for riders ages 7 to 10 years. Designed for beginner to advanced cyclists, SSCV’s goal is to push the junior cycling community to the next level of training and racing. Coaches provide many opportunities for cyclists to compete both locally and regionally during the summer months. Athletes are trained on proper technique, training and running principles.

“It’s great to see so many people coming back and for our children to have the opportunity to race at a very high level again,” said Dan Weiland, club director of the Nordic and cycling program. “We are grateful for everything the Vail Recreation District has done for the sport both last season and this season in the midst of a global pandemic to make the mountain biking series possible in the city.”

SSCV athletes also performed well in the Vail Recreation District Dynafit Vail Trail Running Series at its Beaver Creek Summer Solstice events held on June 19.
