The action returns to the flat track during Motorcycle Week at NHMS

The New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) is a top destination for riders visiting the area during Laconia Motorcycle Week, June 11-19, with on- and off-track events throughout nine days of motorcycle mayhem. Racing on The Flat Track caps off a week of motorcycle celebrations that also includes road racing, vendors, demo rides, camping and more.

“We are thrilled to have The Flat Track back in action this season,” said New Hampshire Motor Speedway executive vice president and general manager David McGrath. “With two weekends of dirt racing to entertain bikers traveling to and from Laconia, as well as competitions on the road course, demonstration rides and vendor displays, this year’s Motorcycle Week at NHMS is a week bikers simply cannot miss.”

NHMS will hold events at The Flat Track on consecutive weekends. Riders can enjoy America’s Original Extreme Sport motorcycle handlebar dirt racing on June 11 when Progressive American Flat Track brings the Laconia Short Track race presented by MOMS to the 0.25-mile dirt track. On June 18, the first Musket Dirt Shootout will feature the Dirt Midget Association, Sprint Cars of New England and two classes from Granite State Mini Sprints.

The NHMS is home to the best racing action in the region, and there’s no shortage of action on the full 1.6-mile road course with nearly 50 races over four days. The United States Classic Racing Association kicks off with the FIM North American Vintage Championships on June 11-12. A variety of classes, from 1950s tank shifters to modern little twin bikes, offer a plethora of vintage racing action.

The action continues June 18-19 when Northeast Motorcycle Road Racing (NEMRR) competes in round three of the Championship Cup Series race, highlighted by the 99e Annual Loudon Classic Middleweight Grand Prix. Known as America’s oldest motorcycle race, the Classic took place on site long before the speedway was built, when it was simply a road course known as Bryar Motorsports Park .

With NEMRR, Supermoto East Coast will combine high-flying action on dirt with high speeds on asphalt. Classes ranging from children to adults will participate in the third round of their championship on June 18 and 19.

Penguin Road Racing School will host training sessions for racers looking to improve their skills on June 16-17.

Katanche and Harley-Davidson will host the region’s largest demo course as well as a shopping center and food court from June 11-18. The nearly nine-mile route will take riders through an on- and off-property experience to test the latest and greatest motorcycle manufacturers the world, such as Harley-Davidson, Indian, Yamaha and BMW, have to offer. Members of the Harley Owners Group, the official riding club of Harley-Davidson, can stop in the Harley-Davidson area for official rally registration and collect their commemorative rally pin. In addition to the demo rides, there will be a plethora of vendors on-site with gear, accessories, sound systems and more for riders.

Riders can also support children in need across New England through June 14’s Ride to the Racetrack, a cruise from Laconia Harley-Davidson to NHMS that includes two laps on the full 1.6-mile road course. Registration is $20 per driver or passenger and all proceeds go to the New Hampshire Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, the official charity of the NHMS.

With the speedway centrally located on Route 106, the main corridor to Laconia, and just 20 minutes south of rally headquarters, it has become the perfect home base during motorcycle week. Dry and full connection points are available with an unobstructed view of the racecourse.

Racers can also visit the New England Racing Museum, located on Route 106 North across from The Flat Track next to the south entrance to the speedway. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 11-12 and June 17-19. Historic motorcycles and newly exhibited race car exhibits will be on display, as the museum updates exhibits every year. Runners are encouraged to check NEMSMuseum.com for updates.
