Ahead of upcoming deliveries of the SONDORS Metacycle electric motorcycle, the company is sharing new details on how they are making sure the bike will withstand a tough life as an everyday commuter bike.
The SONDORS Metacycle is probably still the most anticipated electric motorcycle of the year. It’s not because it’s the fastest or longest electric motorcycle on the way – it’s far from either – but rather because of the extreme value it offers.
Unlike powerful and flashy electric motorcycles like the Zero SR / F and LiveWire One, the SONDORS Metacycle electric motorcycle has much more understated specs.
It claims a top speed of 80 mph (130 km / h) and a maximum range of 80 miles (130 km) per charge.
It won’t win any race or distance records at the Metacycle, but the price of the $ 5,000 sticker is less than a quarter of what other flagship electric motorcycles cost.
This makes the Metacycle the first highway-compatible electric motorcycle in the United States to achieve a price tag widely considered affordable by the masses.
SONDORS was initially scheduled to deliver the first bikes by the end of 2021, but announced several months ago that production was proceeding ahead of schedule. This has led the company to increase its delivery estimates in the third quarter of this year.
We now take a look at the accelerated durability tests the Metacycle is currently undergoing to validate its life expectancy on the road.
According to SONDORS:

This type of testing is common in the motorcycle industry and often uses a variety of methods to simulate accelerated wear, such as operating at higher speeds, using higher temperatures, and in increasing test environments. difficult.
SONDORS claims that the Metacycle’s transmission has now racked up over 300,000 miles (510,000 km) of testing without any major issues.
The battery has also undergone over 1,000 successful charge and discharge cycles.
The Metacycle uses an approximately 50 lb (23 kg) removable battery with a capacity of 4 kWh. A second auxiliary battery measuring 3 kWh will be an accessory supplied to fill the open cavity in the “tank” area of the frame. The other two optional accessories will be a faster level 2 charger for using public charging stations or a storage compartment.
Time is running out as SONDORS continues to test the bike before deliveries. Soon we’ll see if they do it on time.
With SONDORS still promising an estimated delivery time of Q3 2021, it looks like it will come down to the thread. We have yet to hear any news on the bikes prepared for delivery, but the company still has six weeks to go until the end of the third quarter.
To be honest, I would be more surprised if they actually met that deadline. It’s nothing against SONDORS, in particular. It’s just that the company used the pre-sales method that has become typical in the e-bike industry where SONDORS started. However, with current industry pressures causing delays across the board, the standard operating procedure has evolved significantly by taking pre-orders in their entirety, promising a delivery date, and then missing it by a few months. It’s happened to many major players, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see it here again.
If SONDORS can get metacycles in garages in the next six weeks that would be great. But I’m not going to bet the farm on it. Despite this, the company has over five years of successful delivery of e-bikes under their belt, so I’m not worried they’ll run away with someone’s depot or pre-order as a theft operation. by night.
