Ocala Motorcycle Club ride ends in tragedy when 80-year-old biker dies in crash

ANTHONY — An 80-year-old motorcyclist was killed and another, 74, was injured late Tuesday morning when they crashed in a rural section of northeast Marion County.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer includes names in its press releases. The agency only gave the men’s ages and said the two were from Ocala.

The motorcycles – one ahead of the other – were heading west on Northeast 90th Street Road about a mile east of Baseline Road (State Road 35 / Northeast 58th Avenue).

According to the patrol, the young man, who was in front, was coming to a bend when he lost control of the motorcycle and left the road. The motorcyclist returned to the road and the motorbike following hit the lead motorbike.

Soldiers said both motorcycles had been driven at least once. Both riders were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where the rider of the second motorcycle died. The other rider sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The two-lane road was blocked by soldiers and Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies for several hours so FHP officials could conduct their investigation.
