Murfreesboro police: possible road rage incident sends 3 people to hospital

MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (WKRN) – Police in Murfreesboro are investigating a possible road rage incident involving a motorcyclist and an SUV that injured several people.

Police said the SUV overturned after crashing into a Murfreesboro Rover city bus just before 6 p.m. Friday. The accident happened on Northwest Broad Street in front of the Bumpus Harley Davidson.

The driver of the SUV told officers that a motorcyclist pointed a gun at him on I-840 and followed the motorcyclist until he eventually collided with the Rover bus and his car overturned on the roof. The bus hit an electric pole. No passengers were taking the bus at that time.

Firefighters from the Murfreesboro Fire Department stabilized the overturned SUV and helped the occupants out of the vehicle, including a mother, father and 9-year-old daughter.

The mother, daughter and bus driver were taken to hospital. All were alert and talking. The 9-year-old was then transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital by a LifeFlight helicopter.

The driver of the SUV was not injured but was ticketed for reckless driving and officers obtained a reckless endangerment warrant for chasing the motorcyclist. The police could not locate the biker.

Bumpus Harley Davidson was hosting a biker event in the parking lot at the time of the crash, but no passerby was injured.

Police said the crash was still under investigation.
