Memorial ride honors Knoxville murder victims

Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) – Dozens of bikers and Jeep owners turned out at Bootlegger Harley Davidson on Saturday afternoon to honor a couple murdered in 2007. Channon Christian and Chris Newsom were the two victims.

“Good kids trying to do the right thing the right way, and they were taken away way too soon,” Channon’s father Gary said.

“They never caused any problems. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Lori, Gary’s wife.

Christian and Newsom were kidnapped after telling friends they were going to someone’s house to watch a movie. Authorities discovered that both had been sexually assaulted. Newsom’s body was found near the train tracks between the 9th and Cherry St. Channon’s body was found in a trash can two days after authorities found Newsom.

“We can never forget Chris. We can never forget Channon,” Lori said.

But that’s why Shepherds RC rides for torque.

“It’s one of Shepherds goals that has always been and always will be to help children,” Gary said.

They want to remember the couple and continue to provide for the needs of the children in the community.

Donations and raffles were held on Saturday. Proceeds from this will go toward a seminary scholarship.
