Man killed in downtown motorcycle accident | 963XKE | Classic Fort Wayne Rock


FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Police say a man died after a motorcycle accident in downtown Fort Wayne Monday morning in Lafayette and Lewis.

The motorcycle was reportedly heading north on Lafayette when it lost control and hit a fire hydrant.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was pronounced dead once in hospital.

FWPD officials released the following:

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred at 10:10 a.m. on March 7, 2022 at Lafayette/Jefferson Blvd. Preliminary information indicates that the solo rider of the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Lafayette St. when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a fire hydrant and a sign on the west side of the roadway, south from Jefferson Blvd. The roadway was wet at the time of the accident.

The driver of the motorcycle, an adult male, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. He was rescued at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he died shortly after arriving. The fatal accident team attended the scene and closed all westbound traffic on Lewis St. from Lafayette St. while the scene was processed. The causeway has since been reopened.

This incident is still under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department FACT team, the Coroner’s Office and the Allen County District Attorney’s Office.
