A man from East Vandergrift and another from Springdale have been charged with multiple counts in connection with the theft of a motorcycle from a Franklin Avenue home in Vandergrift late last month.
John William Ebner, 33, of McKinley Avenue, was arrested by Vandergrift Police on September 4 and charged with burglary, theft, fraud, concealment and other related offenses.
A second man, Devin Michael Beer, 22, of Springdale, has been arrested as an accomplice. He has been charged with conspiracy and receiving stolen property for allegedly helping Ebner transport items Ebner is accused of stealing.
Police said an informant informed investigators that a stolen silver and blue 2003 Buell motorcycle was in Ebner’s garage, according to a criminal complaint filed in support of the charges.
Police obtained a search warrant for the property and found the stolen motorcycle, which had been spray painted black, under a tarp in the garage, they said.
The motorcycle’s license plate had also been replaced with a label from a motorcycle registered with an address in Ford City.
Ebner admitted to police in an interview that his garage also contained vehicle parts and other items he had stolen from the home of a deceased man on Chambers Street, authorities wrote in the complaint.
During the interview, Ebner told police that prior to stealing the Buell motorcycle, he attempted to steal a 2005 Honda bike from another Franklin Avenue home, but was unable to start it because he had damaged ignition.
Ebner and Beer face preliminary hearings on the charges before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec. The date for the hearings has not yet been set.
The men did not have lawyers listed in court documents.
