What prompted a 63-year-old woman to embark on a 525-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles? A very good cause for beginners. Luella Wagner had heard of this long-distance drive to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation, which supports programs and treatments for people of all ages living with the disease. However, a 525 mile ride is no walk in the park. Luella had to train for months, developing her strength and endurance to meet the physical challenges necessary to achieve her goal.
She also needed a pro-level bike. No spoilers here, but she did acquire one in a very unusual way. Beyond doing good, this journey across the coastline of our beautiful state has taken her to mountains, through valleys, through vineyards, through charming and quaint towns….. In short, “the ride of a lifetime”. Perhaps the best part of this trip was the friendships she made. In this animated multimedia presentation, Luella invites you to join her on a great adventure.
Luella Wagner is a writer and performer. She earned a master’s degree in educational theater from NYU and a teaching degree from UCLA. She created a well-received previous show, Bloom Where You Are Planted, and produced and directed an award-winning documentary, We Shall Survive.
All proceeds from California Coast Classic benefit the Arthritis Foundation.
