BMW Motorrad says sales will eclipse all-time record in 2021

Before the pandemic began last year, BMW Motorrad said it expected to be on track for a year of record-breaking motorcycle sales around the world, but those expected results were ruined.

But now the brand says it’s back on track with third quarter 2021 sales figures expected to reveal BMW Motorrad to achieve an all-time record year. The last quarter was the best sales period ever for BMW Motorrad and was associated with a strong start to the year. Company officials say they have sold 156,609 motorcycles and scooters to customers around the world. The figures represent an increase of 20.8% compared to 2020.

According to BMW, the recent success in sales is due to their wide product range and the introduction of ten new models since the start of this year. Certainly a boom year for sales in the motorcycle market is certainly a factor. BMW says this report is based on preliminary figures and not broken down by markets, segments and models.

The numbers have certainly been bolstered by the introduction of the R18 Classic, which is powered by the same boxer-twin monster that is included in all variants of the R 18. Featuring retro cruiser styling and an engine displacement of 1,802cc, the R 18 was clearly intended for the American market.

Capable of 4,750 rpm, the enormous boxer would deliver up to 91 hp, along with 116 lb-ft (157 Nm) of torque at 3,000 rpm. The Big Boxer is a two-cylinder engine that represents, at least according to BMW, the “The highest capacity 2-cylinder boxer engine of all time ever used in serial motorcycle production. “

The BMW R 18 Classic hit dealerships in February 2021, and was priced competitively at $ 17,495, very close to similar Harley-Davidson models.

BMW Motorrad is likely to hit its expected sales figures. The division plans to unveil even more new bikes at EICMA show in a month.
