City police today claimed they dismantled a gang of thieves with the arrest of four of its members and the recovery of 21 cell phones, two motorcycles and a sharp weapon used in the snatching incidents and looting.
Elsewhere in town, police caught another thief and recovered looted earrings and a motorbike.
Giving details, Pragya Jain, additional deputy commissioner of police-I, said those arrested were identified as Raju Bahadur, resident of Janta Nagar, Ravi Kumar and Mohammed Gulfam, both residents of Indra settlement. , and Gaurav, alias Mungi, resident of Ambedkar. Nagar. All four were registered under sections 379-B and 473 of the IPC.
Based on the information provided by the thieves during the preliminary interrogation, the police recovered 21 mobile phones of different brands, which were ripped off or looted in different areas, and two motorcycles – Bajaj Pulsar (PB-10EA-7549) and Honda CD Dream (PB-10HE-6051), used by thieves to commit crimes.
Police said two thieves Mohammed Gulfam and Gaurav were already facing a criminal case under Articles 379-B and 411 IPC registered at Dugri police station. The gang operated mainly in the area of Dugri, Model Town, Phullanwal Chowk and Manakwal Road where unsuspecting people were looted by threatening them with sharp weapons.
Elsewhere in the city, police arrested a criminal, identified as Chandan Kumar, alias Chandu, from Ram Nagar, Tibba Road, who was allegedly involved in several incidents of tearing gold chains and earrings from his neck. and to the ears of women and to escape. on a motorcycle.
