A Fox Lake man died after being thrown from his motorcycle in a high-speed crash Wednesday in Round Lake Beach, the coroner said.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 7:21 a.m. Wednesday on Hainesville Road and Clarendon Drive.
Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Wayne Wilde Jr. said his department was dispatched for a report of a single vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection just south of Rollins Road .
Officers arrived and located a 1994 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the ditch with its driver lying beside it, Wilde said.
A preliminary investigation determined that the Harley Davidson was heading north on Hainesville Road at high speed.
The Harley Davidson hit the curb and the driver of the motorcycle was immediately thrown, Wilde said.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the driver as James Semmens, 53, of Fox Lake.
Semmens was not wearing a helmet and suffered fatal injuries, Wilde said.
Paramedics transported Semmens to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department continues to investigate the accident with the assistance of the Lake County Major Accident Assistance Team (MCAT).
